Arkema Inc. Webinar: Blistering in Type IV Hydrogen Tanks: Material Selection for Prevention

As hydrogen powered vehicles becoming increasing popular for transporting goods and people with a reduced carbon footprint, safety and reliability will be just as critical on these new vehicles as it has been with traditional drivetrains (if not more). This webinar will explore the blistering phenomena which takes place in type IV hydrogen storage tanks and how it relates to the safety and reliability of hydrogen powered vehicles. A method for measuring blistering in a tank liner will be reviewed, along with results from a blistering test performed by Kyushu University. This webinar will also discuss which characteristics of a polymer material can make it more or less susceptible to blistering. Lastly, polyamide 11 (nylon 11) will be presented as the superior tank liner material for resisting blistering, therefore making it the safest option for type IV hydrogen storage tank liners.
